Basic Purpose and Objective Sets up, operates and troubleshoots up to two electrical discharge machines (EDM sinkers) to produce fasteners to specifications following department procedures to ensure conforming parts are being produced. Specific Duties and Responsibilities Follows sequence of operations and methods of set up in accordance with written and verbal instructions.  Positions and secures work piece on machine table with clamps, vise or fixture.Troubleshoots and corrects problems when they arise.Determine the planning and operation of various jobs for each machine.Positions and secures electrode in holder on surface plate, verifying concentricity, alignment and depth using measuring devices such as calipers and dial indicators.Positions gauge blocks, dial indicator and spindle stop on machine so that descending electrode will stop at specified feeler point touches gauge blocks.Turns valve to adjust flow of dielectric coolant over electrode and work piece or to immerse them in circulating bath.Knowledge of machine controls to adjust machine setting, such as voltage, current, frequency, and electrode feed rate, according to information on charts or machine procedures.Knowledge to compute settings from specifications and knowledge of machine capacities.Inspects fasteners to verify conformance with specifications and blueprints using precision measuring devices.Reads blueprint and job order for product specifications such as dimensions, tolerances, and number of parts, and tooling instructions such as feed rates, holding fixtures to be used.Recognize improper machine function and take corrective action.  Notifies supervisor or Lead person of major malfunctions.Obtains specifications for work required on fasteners by reading router and OP drawing.Selects proper tooling and inspection gages.Other tasks may be assigned. Skills and Formal Training Requirements/Experience Able to read, comprehend, and execute directions from mechanical drawings.Able to measure dimensions of products to verify conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as rulers, calipers, gauges, or micrometers.
